My Blonde Color

BUT WAIT - how do you have such healthy hair since you’re so blonde?!

Yes, my hair is very light.  If you’re new here, here’s everything you need to know- I have decently light hair (or at least hair that lifts easily) due to genetics and I use Sun-In to lighten my hair.  Yeah, that $3.99 drugstore product that everyone stopped using in the 90’s- I’m still using it. I’ve been using it since I was 12 (I’m 30 now). It’s all I’ve ever used to lighten my hair (no dye, bleach, or highlights at the salon or at home). NOW, don’t come for me- I’m not saying Sun-In is natural or healthy… I mean, the #1 ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. BUT it has worked for me all of these years and lightens my hair super easily. I like the color of my hair when I use it, so I’ll keep using it until that changes. DISCLAIMER- I’m not recommending that you use Sun-In. If you dye your hair, it can cause a lot of damage and if you aren’t naturally blonde, it can turn your hair orange.  If you want to hear me talk more about this, watch my IG story highlights called “Blonde Color” where I discuss this at LENGTH!

So is my hair healthier because I use Sun-In and don’t bleach it at a salon? Or would I be better off getting my hair professionally done? I don’t know. I’m sure bleach and Sun-In are both bad for your hair in different ways. Anytime you chemically lighten your hair, you’re inevitably going to cause some sort of damage or breakage! BUT I think because my natural color is light(er) and lifts really easily, my hair can handle being lightened without seeing a ton of breakage… It would be different if I was naturally a brunette and trying to get my hair to be bleach blonde. Regardless, any form of hair lightening is damaging to hair in some way yet majority of us still go through with it because we like the way it makes our hair look. So my way of compensating for any damage is through all of the aforementioned tips :)

How do you keep your blonde so bright/ How do you combat brassiness?

Purple shampoo and purple toning gloss makes a huge difference in my blonde color! If I go too long without using anything, my hair definitely pulls more yellowy/ orange hues so the purple products really help my hair look like a brighter blonde color! There’s a few that I like from the Kerastase line but I also use the L’Oreal Paris line (which is more budget-friendly) and they both work great. The Le Color toning gloss definitely gives the most immediate difference has the most bang for your buck! I always get asked how often I use these and it’s really just whenever I feel like my hair is looking more brassy. I don’t use more than once a week but sometimes I’ll go weeks in between using. I have to be careful to not leave on too long because sometimes my lighter strands will absorb the purple and I’ll come out looking a little too ashy. If you’re new to purple products, start small and just leave them in for a few minutes to see how your hair does with them. Linking my favorites below!
