How I Care for My Workout Clothes

Let's be honest, gym clothes can get a little stinky! But hey, it's a sign of a good workout right?! I really want my workout clothes to last, so today I'm sharing how I care for them... while making sure they smell nice too!

Spray

After a workout, I try to wash my gym clothes right away. However, I can't always get around to it that quickly. So, right after I get home from a workout I spray them with Nathan’s Power Sport Odor Eliminator spray and lay them out to dry. I never leave them in my gym bag, in a pile on the floor, or in a dark hamper… that’s a recipe for disaster! I swear, this spray works like a charm at neutralizing odors and not just covering them up.

Wash

Once I’m ready to wash my workout clothes, I use this detergent. I’ve tried a lot of different laundry detergents and this Sport-Wash works the BEST at getting rid of odors and stains. One thing to note though is that it’s unscented (it’s also non-toxic though which is great). So, if you want your clothes to have that clean fresh laundry smell, add a splash of your favorite scented detergent. Don't overdo it though - a little detergent goes a long way. If you use too much, it can actually build up on clothing and trap in bacteria that will make your clothes smell worse (no thanks)!! And trust me, don't use fabric softener!!! This will also trap in odors… speaking from experience & research here lol.

Hang Dry

For the longest time, I always dried my workout clothes in the dryer. But recently, I started hang drying them... I read somewhere that drying them in the dryer could lock in the smell - so I quit that right away! I’m so glad I made the switch because now they don’t smell and they last so much longer. No more shrunken clothes, lint or loose threads that the dryer used to cause - win! If you don’t have anywhere to hang dry your clothes, I bought this drying rack which is super affordable and doesn’t take up a lot of space. I can fit a ton of leggings, tanks, & sports bras on it.

Treat

If you have anything that is really holding odors, you can always soak them in white vinegar and water before washing or add a little baking soda to the wash. These are natural deodorizers that have stood the test of time. Can’t argue with the tried and true!

I invest in good quality workout clothes, so I don’t mess around when it comes to caring for them! I want to be able to get as much wear out of them as possible, so a little TLC goes a long way. Plus, nobody likes a smelly pair of leggings… am I right?!
